How can I tell if my child feels stressed?

It’s common to feel stressed when we think we can’t cope with something. For young people, this could be struggling with school work or falling out with friends. It might even be a big change in family life, such as moving home.

Regularly chatting to your child about what’s happening in their life can help you be aware when they’re experiencing stress. You might also spot physical reactions or changes in behaviour:

  • Your child might get a headache or upset stomach
  • They feel tired or have trouble concentrating
  • They seem anxious or depressed
  • They might say they doubt their abilities to cope with certain things
  • They blame and punish others or themselves.
